What Is Lycopene?
Lycopene is a red-colored carotenoid that acts as an antioxidant. Antioxidants are responsible for fighting free radicals in the body, which helps prevent age-related diseases.

Anti-Cancer Properties
Studies have found that food sources rich in Lycopene are able to stop tumor growth for breast and prostate cancers. In fact, up to 32–50% lower risk of lung and prostate cancers.
Scientists believe that this is due to lycopene not being turned into Vitamin A like most other carotenoid, thus enhancing its health boosting properties

Heart Health
Lycopene, in conjunction with a plant-based diet, has the ability to unclog arteries. It also reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) while promoting good cholesterol (HDL).
By reducing bad cholesterol, this prevents buildup in the arteries which can lead to heart failure.

Skin Health
A study found that lycopene intake was associated with reduced redness from sunburn, by up to 50%. The sun emits UV radiation, which can be harmful to the skin if exposed for too long. Scientists found that having lycopene with other carotenoids was able to provide a protective layer for the skin.
However, scientists warn that lycopene alone cannot fully protect against sun-related skin damage. On the other hand, lycopene was found to reverse some age-related skin diseases as well.
